Events

We have organised some events in the name of our cause.

Three peaks - four of David's friends challenged themselves to climb three of Britain's highest peaks; Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike, and Snowdon all within 24 hours. For full details visit the Three Peaks event page.

8-10 May, 2010

186 mile bike ride - a sponsored and grueling bike ride from Leicester to Exeter covering around 186 miles of B roads in 24 hours, organised by Sergeant Nick White, David's colleague and friend.

1 May, 2010

Gig - a sell out ticket event attended by close to 300 people. This event has raised over £3,500 and has set the ball rolling.

Hedgehog antagonist GDC-0449 is a medical trial at the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumour Centre, this is the trial for which we are raising money.

Help us help a friend is a Facebook group we've set up to gain more exposure. We welcome new members so please join and help spread the word.

Events

We have organised the below events in order to raise money towards the medical trial for David.

 

Charity Christmas Ball

COMPLETED | December 4, 2010 | raised ~ £1,700

Join an elegant, charming and fun Christmas party at Aston Villa this December at the Charity Jingle Bell Ball! Have a great night and help raise money for a great cause at the same time!

A free glass of wine, beer or soft drink awaits you as you make your entrance and arrive in the reception area. Relax with reception drinks whilst you wait to be seated.

Get a group of friends or colleagues together and have your picture taken with the party photographer.

Then make your way to the festively decorated 1874 Suite where you will be seated for dinner where three course of delicious dining are served, followed by freshly brewed tea, coffee and mince pies.

Have a go at the fun ice-breaker quiz and try for the prize, awarded at the end of the evening. There will be party favours set out on the tables to really get you in the Christmas mood! After the meal there will be a raffle draw and some fun festive games.

The professional DJ will take the party up a notch and lure people on to the dance floor to party the night away at the funnest, friendliest most elegant Christmas party in Birmingham 2010!

Ticket cost: £40 per person

Dress Code: Smart/Eveningwear/Partywear.

How to book: Ideally we would like to book you on tables of 10 people (although can be 8-12) so if you can get a group of friends, family and/or colleagues together and email me at simon.foster@davidleerobinson.co.uk to reserve a table. However please contact me if you are a smaller party. Tickets are on a first come first serve basis so please book now to avoid dissapointment.

Comedy nights at Highlight Leicester

COMPLETED | July 16 - August 28, 2010

Local comedy club Highlight previously helped raise £1,300 for our fund with the Comedy night event. The local comedy club has once again offered to help out, this time by donating all ticket proceeds from Friday and Saturday nights for the next month, to our fund for David. Team Robinson sports auction

COMPLETED | July 22, 2010 | raised £3,000

Sports auction presented by Leicester City legend, Steve Walsh. Great sport-related prizes, including a snooker cue signed by Leicester's own very successful snooker player, Mark Selby.

Tickets are £10pp and can be purchased in advance or at the door. The ticket price not only includes the fantastic auction but also food, a live band and a disco.

Sponsored fundraising hike around Rutland Water

COMPLETED | June 26, 2010 | raised £1,639

Almina's work colleagues, Kate Godber and Nikki Glaves of Harvey Ingram LLP organised a 17-mile sponsored walk around Rutland Water, to help raise funds for David's appeal. Of the amount raised, £200 was kindly donated by Market Harborough Lions Club.

We're all determined to do what we can to help David, Almina and Amelia. The sooner the target can be reached the better. Nikki and I have only just got this organised but there's already been a flurry of support from colleagues and friends. But there's always plenty of room for more fund-raisers to take part.

One man, Three Peaks

COMPLETED | June 12, 2010

Glen Turner of Kirby Muxloe heard about our campaign through mutual friends and came forward to brave the elements and complete the Three Peaks Challenge in less than 24 hours. Glen was part of a team of 14 people raising money for various good causes. Of his efforts for our cause, Glen said:

STRIDE Family Fun Day

COMPLETED | May 31, 2010 | raised £2,500

Leicester STRIDE is holding a Family Fun Day Fundraiser and 5-a-side football tournament at Rothley Sports & Social Club, Mountsorrel, Leicestershire, on Bank Holiday Monday. It is set to be a fun-packed family day out with a BBQ, football tournament, competitions, raffle prizes and even a chance to win a car! Leicester Mercury dress-down day

COMPLETED | May 28, 2010 | raised £260

The staff at Leicester's local newspaper, the Leicester Mercury, dressed down for a Friday in order to raise money for Team Robinson. This is yet another sterling effort from the local newspaper which has been following and supporting our cause since the beginning. For their article, click here.

 

Craft and gift fair

COMPLETED | May 16, 2010 | raised £565

A craft and gift fair is taking place in a local village pub, the Royal Oak in Kirby Muxloe, with teas, coffees and home made cakes as well as a craft and gift sale to raise money for David.

 

Jeans and samosa day

COMPLETED | May 14, 2010 | raised £700

Almina's work colleagues at Harvey Ingram held a jeans day and a samosa sale in aid of Team Robinson which raised £700. They are also a planning a sposored walk and a corporate run which are to take place in due course.

 

Charity night

COMPLETED | May 13, 2010 | raised £600+

Craig Sawbridge, a friend of David's, has arranged a charity night to be held at the Westend WMC on Braunstone Avenue in Leicester on 13th May. There will be dance and singing acts, a raffle and auction on the night. Anyone who would like to attend this event is welcome to contact Craig through the Help us Help a Friend Facebook Group.

 

Three Peaks

Comedy night

Bike ride

COMPLETED | May 1, 2010

A sponsored and grueling bike ride from Leicester to Exeter covering around 186 miles of B roads in 15 hours, organised by Sergeant Nick White, David's colleague and friend. For full details visit the Bike ride event page.

 

Mansfield House police fundraiser

ONGOING | March 26, 2010 | raised £1,000+

Officers and staff at Mansfield House police station held a day full of fundraising activities. For full details visit the Mansfield House event page.

 

Gig

Miscellaneous events

  • In June, a hand-made card stall at a local school in Leicester raised £100 for Team Robinson as part of a craft-fair.
  • David's sister, Bethany Robinson, raised £1,250 by completing a sponsored swim even though she has only recently learned to swim;
  • Oadby Baptist Church Girls Brigade in Leicestershire have kindly donated a total of £60 by means of a coffee evening held on 23rd March;
  • In March, students at Bosworth College, Leicestershire, organised a cake sale and a tombola which raised around £400.
